Hostgator Web hosting for beginners 2021 Hostgator Review

Hostgator Web hosting for beginners 2021

There are plenty of web hosting providers out there today to choose from that focus on affordable hosting solutions, fancy features and top customer service delivery. However, deciding which host to go with is not all that easy.

Luckily for you, we're here to break down one of the most popular web hosts on the market today, HostGator, to see if you need what you need to run a successful website without running yourself to the ground with site issues.

Hostgator review, there are some things you should be aware of before I decide to sign up

If you give me your 10 minutes, I'll give you all the information you need about their web hosting services, such as answering questions:

  • What features does Hostgator offer to its clients?
  • Are there different plans available?
  • How much does Hostgator Hosting cost?
  • What kind of web hosting do they provide to website owners?

Let’s dive into a quick background first though.

Hostgator was founded by a young college kid named Brent Oxley in 2002. Hostgator finally landed its official office location in Houston, Texas after spending some time in Canada. From there, they continue to grow, opening another office in Austin, Texas, as well as expanding to Brazil.

By 2012, Oxley had announced that Endurance International Group (EIG) was acquiring Hostgator. And, while this was a smart business move for Oxley and its crew, such a move could lead to problems for those currently using Hostgator services or those looking to use them.

Not sure why? Read on EIG and the impact they have achieved on web hosting providers.

That said, I don’t want to let you know here that its role in EIG is inherently good or bad. In fact, Hostgator has seen some great successes over the years and has churned out millions of satisfied customers.

Hostgator web hosting

Here are the various web hosting solutions that they provide to website owners.

Shared web hosting

Hostgator offers extremely affordable web hosting packages for websites of all types and sizes. Divided into three distinct plans where the hatching plan is the cheapest:

For example, each web hosting package comes with a built-in Gator website builder for convenient drag-and-drop site-building. Also, they bring the QuickInstall tool to install scripts from WordPress sites, blogs, forums, galleries and eCommerce store directly on your site.

Not to mention the fact that they support WordPress sites as well as Joomla, Drupal, Magento, Wiki and PHPBB hosting content management systems.

Additional features include:

  • Unmetered bandwidth
  • 99% uptime guaranteed
  • Free transfer to your website, blog or online store
  • Credit for Google AdWords and Bing Ads
  • CPANEL Control Panel
  • PHP version 7 and SHS access
  • Unlimited email accounts
  • 24/7/365 Technology, phone, live chat and email (ticket system) support

It is important to note that web hosting will be the focus of this review, but other web hosting solutions will be shared with you if you need something more robust.

Free site transfer and one-click install

Again, this service is ideal for most web hosting companies, but creating Hostgator makes it very easy to transfer from one host to another. Just sign up for the plan you want to use and let Hostgator do the rest.

Adding to this, if you’re new to acquiring ownership of a website and Hostgator is the first hosting solution you’ve ever used, make sure that installing your preferred CMS is as easy as clicking a few buttons when signing up. Using their quick install tool, you can easily set up your website without thinking of technical knowledge.

(Almost) Everything is limitless

Save for the most basic shared hosting packages that Hostgator offers that limit domains to 1 Unlimited everything (better sorted - see below) Otherwise it's a great deal because their plans are so cheap

Unlimited disk space means you can store as much data as you need. Uninterrupted disk space allows the seemingly unlimited growth of your website when using an affordable shared hosting plan.

Having unmetered bandwidth means you can move an unlimited amount of data between your host server, your site visitors and the Internet. This is great for ensuring the speed and effectiveness of your website, especially in a collaborative plan.

You will also get unlimited databases, which means you can have much more WordPress installed as you want. This is good for those who have a lot of clients and want to check the website changes before putting them live.

"Unlimited" hosting is a myth and at least Hostgator is clear about the limitations of using their resources. Unless you offer them "everything unlimited":

Do not use more than 25% of the server's central processing unit (CPU)

  • Do not run more than 25 processes simultaneously in a cipanel
  • There are no more than 25 MySQL connections at once
  • Do not create more than 100,000 files in Cipanel
  • Do not check more than 30 emails per hour
  • Do not send more than 500 emails per hour
  • However, there are no restrictions:

  1. The bandwidth you use
  2. Email accounts you created

Cons

Like everything else, there are going to be some difficulties with using such a cheap, web hosting solution. Let's take a look at some of the ways they can work and see if they can influence your final decision.

 Limited features

While the features provided are quite standard and unlimited everything is great, the truth is, Hostgator does not offer an extra lot to shared hosting users.

Since this type of hosting is not managed, you need to manage the administrative work that your website needs, on your own. This means daily backups (although they will do weekly backups), updates to any core, plugin or themes you use (unless you're a little more expensive with WordPress hosting) and security is all your responsibility.

Expensive domain

While they offer the advantage of managing everything related to the domain, few of them notice that the price of the domain name is a bit higher.

This is good to know because if you decide to take a shared plan, you can always renew your domain for free and with any other less expensive company and manage your DNS directly from cPanel to Hostgator.

It is part of EIG

Again, I will not try to suppress you whenever it comes to Endurance International Group (EIG). However, most people who will review hosting companies will say that a hosting company that is part of EIG, runs the risk of gaining a bad reputation.

Because if you go with the hosting company A (it's part of the EIG and you don't know it) and have a bad experience, and move to the hosting company B (part of the EIG and you don't know it), who's to say that your Is the experience going to get better?

Just be aware that Hostgator is a part of this organization and the way AIG runs things is probably spread over how Hostgator handles things.

Should I recommend Hostgator?

For those looking for a simple, inexpensive shared hosting solution, yes I think Hostgator should be an option to consider.
